The Native Village of Kotzebue would like to thank our outgoing Executive Director, Siikauraq Whiting, for her years of service to our Tribal Members. Siikauraq recruited an excellent team and was instrumental in securing ownership of Iglut for our Tribe.
The Native Village of Kotzebue is thrilled to announce Qaiqpak Christina Hensley as our new Executive Director. Equipped with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management & Technology and an extensive background in grants, human resources, and information technology, she will be an asset to the tribe in this leadership role. Christina also brings a wealth of institutional knowledge, having previously worked for the Native Village of Kotzebue from 1999 to 2006, and as Deputy Director from 2022-2023. During her tenure, she made a significant impact in a variety of sectors, including education and workforce development.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Christina is known for her positive attitude, infectious smile, and unending dedication to her family. She is a gifted Iñupiaq dancer and generous culture bearer who takes the time to share traditional knowledge with others.
“Christina’s passion for her culture and community is evident in everything she does, and we are confident that she will be an outstanding leader for the Native Village of Kotzebue,” said Native Village of Kotzebue Tribal Council Chair Makiq Toni Raye Bergan.
