TITLE: Tribal Family Services Specialist

JOB SUMMARY:
This Tribal Family Services Specialist will be responsible for providing support in case management, referrals, and educational services to Native Americans, and administer the Assistance Program in an effective and responsible manner. The Tribal Family Services Specialist will also provide clerical support to the Enrollment and Realty Programs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assures confidentiality of client information.
- Organizes, maintains, and files client information.
- Makes initial and continuing eligibility determinations on all applications for General Assistance, Burial Assistance & CINA Assistance.
- Works with clients and Education Coordinator on Individual Self-Sufficiency Plan (ISP).
- Develops and maintains a records of pertinent information through personal interviews, home visits, and collateral contacts, and to support authorization and/or denial of applications from persons who are applying for assistance.
- Conducts regularly scheduled reviews of all General Assistance and Burial Assistance cases, updates information contained on client information, and reviews of all cases, updates information contained on client information, and reviews cases with supervisor on a regular basis.
- Screens incoming calls, correspondence, and responds independently when possible.
- Provides clerical support, including but not limited to typing, copying, and faxing for ICWA, and GA programs.
- Provides clerical support, including but not limited to typing, copying, and faxing for the Enrollment and Realty programs as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma/GED equivalent plus one (1) years’ experience in the Human Services Field. College coursework in Human Services field may substituted for one-half of the required work experience.
- Must maintain client confidentiality.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check. No prior convictions of child abuse, family violence, or other convictions that would affect the performance between state and federal agencies.
- Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with state and federal agencies; including but limited to knowledge of the Public Assistance benefits and how their policies interface with the Bureau’s programs.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY, AND SKILLS:
- Ability to communicate, both orally and written, including the ability to analyze information in a logical, sequential manner, and to make concise written presentations of findings.
- Knowledge of Assistance, and the FDPIR policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of the lifestyles and culture of the people of Kotzebue and the Northwest Arctic Borough
